Summer skincare - what you need to do differently (That most guys aren’t doing)

Chances are, you’re already doing the summer skincare essentials. Applying sunscreen and washing your face with a cleanser. Yet for some reason, your skin won’t glow.

That’s because you need to do more than just the bare minimum.

You’re following the same cookie cutter skincare advice that everyone follows. And while that advice may work for most people, it’s not there to bring the best results. It’s just what it claims to be, ‘the essentials’ to maintain your skin and help beginners get started on skincare.

To achieve a model worthy glow, you need advice straight from dermatologists. So in today’s edition, The Forte Team has brought you premium skincare advice that’s followed in the industry. These are all the tips you need to follow to help your skin stand out among the rest.

Tip #1: Stay Oily?

While it may seem counterintuitive to apply oil to your face during the summer, facial oils can actually help regulate your skin's oil production.

Always opt for lightweight, non-comedogenic oils as they can nourish your skin without leaving a greasy, shiny finish. Popular facial oils that is highly recommended for men is jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, and rosehip seed oil. They can replenish your skin's moisture barrier and prevent issues like flakiness and dullness. This keeps your skin hydrated and gives you that characteristic glow.

To incorporate facial oils into your skincare routine, start by cleansing your face thoroughly with a cleanser. After patting your skin dry, use a few drops of your chosen facial oil onto your fingertips and gently massage it into your skin.

Tip #2: Experiment With Alternative Protection

We all know sunscreens are essential but they often feel too greasy and heavy. If that’s you, you can try powdered sunscreens or roll-on sunscreens. Powdered sunscreens provide SPF protection in a lightweight powder form. They can be easily applied over moisturizer or throughout the day to absorb excess oil and protect your skin from the sun. These sunscreens are perfect for guys with oily skin.

Roll-on sunscreen is a type of sunscreen that comes in a roll-on bottle and applies SPF directly to skin. The main benefit of a roll on sunscreen is convenience. It’s less messy and you can use the stick directly to cover all areas of your skin without overusing or wasting the product.

Remember to keep a stick of roll on sunscreen or powdered sunscreen in a convenient place, like your key bowl or shoe rack so you don’t forget your SPF protection this summer.

Tip #3: Go Tropical

In the summer, air conditioning and dry summer climates can cause the air to become dry, which can lead to moisture loss from your skin. Dry skin can lead to a whole host of problems like redness, itchiness, irritation and may exacerbate some skin conditions. Using a humidifier can help add moisture back into the air, preventing your skin from becoming dehydrated.

Hydrated skin can also increase the effectiveness of your skincare products, so it’s a win-win situation either way.

By making these small changes, you’ll be able to notice drastic results in your skin tone and texture. As always, remember to have realistic expectations and give your skin time to adjust to your new regimen.
